2025 – 4% Pension increase request finally with Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER)

As you know the trustees of the RTÉ Superannuation Scheme (RTÉSA) applied to the relevant Ministers for a pension increase of 4% this year, with effect from 1st January 2025. This request was made on March 10th. (see April 2025 update here).

Last April, we at the Retired Staff Association sent a letter to Patrick O’Donovan, TD, the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, (TGASM) (April 22nd – see letter here) to request that there be no undue delay in communicating his department’s support for the 4% increase in pensions proposed by the RTÉSA Trustees. We received the following reply (see letter 20250508 here) from Donal Crowley (TGASM). RTÉSA subsequently sent two email reminders. We had no written response before the 10th September.

On 10th September Stephanie Fitzpatrick phoned the department and spoke with Tim Barrett (Department of Culture, Communications and Sport – DCCS) who is now dealing with this issue. He said that the delay in processing this request was partially due to the changes of personnel in DCCS.

Mr Barrett informed Stephanie that Minister O’Donovan had approved the 4% increase for 2025 the previous week and that his approval had been sent to the DPER on the day I phoned.

Apparently a formal written reply to my correspondence (my letter of 22nd April and my various email reminders….) is on its way to us.

Keep an eye out on our website for any developments on this front. https://www.rtersa.ie/

From Peter Fay – Unfair application of the Pension Levy by RTÉSA?

The following document by Peter Fay (see document here) making a case for the repayment of deductions made by the RTÉSA from the Retirement Gratuity Lump Sum of some members.

The amount involved could be approximately €2000 – €3000 per individual. Peter is asking anyone who is interested in pursuing this case with him to please email him at peterfay0318@gmail.com.
